Warahgai Quail J2 was our first registered Angus female when the Stud was founded in 1965. She was the matriarch of the Quail family that as an individual was very impressive.

After a visit to Australia by an American Angus authority in 1974, Dr Lyle Springer, he wrote –
“I continued to see many fine cattle, but none to beat J2 and her heifer calf.”

Quail J2 was a prominent breeding cow being the dam of Taurus who was the 1977 Grand Champion Angus Bull at the Melbourne Royal Show and also Grand Champion Angus Bull at the Perth Royal Show in1978. This highly acclaimed sire, along with his brother Jovial X22, featured in pedigrees of many of the top breeding animals of that era. Quail J2 was also the great grandam of the 1987 Brisbane Royal Grand Champion Female, Forres Quail F9.
